Budget Changes – Research & Development Concession

The Research & Development Concession contained in the tax law has been in a state of uncertainty for some time. At the time of the Federal Budget (announced on 6 October 2020), a bill was in Federal Parliament to enact changes to the R & D concession that had been recommended some years ago.

Now, the Federal Government has decided to again change its approach to the concession. Part of this change in approach is due to the effects of COVID-19. These changes have now been passed by both houses of Federal Parliament.

In this one-hour webinar, Alan Garcia, one of Australia’s most experienced R & D experts, will explain:

  • The background to the changes.
  • The R & D tax offset for companies with a turnover of less than $20 million.
  • The R & D tax offset for companies with turnover of more than $20 million.
  • The increase in the R & D expenditure threshold.
  • The R & D intensity tiers.
  • Various integrity rules that have the purpose of ensuring the concession is not abused.
  • Various changes to the way the R & D concession will be administered by government agencies.

This webinar is a must-attend for any practitioner that has a client claiming the R & D concession or is intending to make a claim.

All participants will be provided with extensive notes and examples illustrating the operation of the changes.
